Sri Chinmoy wins first place in a poetry contest in Jean’s Journal for his poem ‘Between Nothingness and Eternity’.

Some of Sri Chinmoy’s aphorisms are placed inside fortune cookies, which he hands out to his disciples. He then asks them to read out the meditation in their cookie, and proceeds to elaborate on each one. These aphorisms (1-74) given to the New York Centre on 1 September 1974, as well as aphorisms (75-168) given to the Manhattan Centre on 14 September 1974 are later published in his book, Fortune-Philosophy

Sri Chinmoy is born on Thursday, August 27th 1931 — an hour before sunset  — in the small village of East Shakpura, Chittagong, Bengal. He is the youngest of seven children born to mother Yogamaya Ghosh and father Shashi Kumar Ghosh.

The first issue of AUM magazine, “a monthly journal devoted to the spiritual writings of Chinmoy Kumar Ghose,” is published. It is printed by Boro Park Printers on New Utrecht Avenue in Brooklyn, New York.
