Sri Chinmoy’s love of cycling dates back to his childhood in Chittagong, East Bengal, and continued during his time at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry, India, where the bicycle was a common mode of transport. His cycling career begins in earnest in 1977 when he and his students participate in the 24-Hour Pepsi Bicycle Marathon in Central Park, New York, NY, USA.
