MEDITATION OPENS CALIFORNIA GAMES

SACRAMENTO — Sri Chinmoy officially opened the 1996 California State Championships of the Senior Games with a moment of silent meditation on May 31.

A choral group of 40 of his students also performed a special song their teacher had written for these games.

Sri Chinmoy participated in five events over that weekend — basketball free throw, softball throw, ergometer, 50 meters and 100 meters.

During his visit to Sacramento, he was awarded a medal for his service to world peace by the organizer of the California Senior Games, Pam Rhodes.

Sri Chinmoy has his fourth audience with Pope John Paul II, just before his weekly mass for 15,000 people in St Peter’s Square, Vatican City.

Sri Chinmoy kindly requests the Pope to bless the ‘Peace Torch’ and explains to the Holy Father that it will be carried by runners and schoolchildren throughout the world:

“Holy Father, we are offering our hearts’ prayerful gratitude to you for so compassionately blessing this Peace Torch, which will be carried in seventy countries.”

The Pope gives his special blessing and then, speaking in Italian, the Pope explains the symbolism of the Torch to the crowds in Saint Peter’s Square. In conclusion, the Pope says:

“I salute the runners of the Peace Run, who are carrying a torch as a testimony to peace through the streets of the world.”

The Dance of Life, part 12

Sri Chinmoy reads new poems
at the San Francisco Centre

Listen to Sri Chinmoy reciting his new poems

Early and late

I went to see God
An hour early.
He welcomed me
And
Shook hands with me.

I went to see God
Two hours early.
He welcomed me
And
Embraced me.

I went to see God
Three hours early.
He welcomed me
And
Made me sit on His
Transcendental Throne.

I went to see God
A minute late.
He thoughtfully hesitated to welcome me.

I went to see God
Two minutes late.
He simply ignored my arrival.

I went to see God
Three minutes late.
He refused to open the door.

Boys and girls

Boys will be boys;
Girls will be girls.
Boys will reach their Goal
Singing and running.
Girls will reach their Goal
Dancing and diving.

Boys will be boys;
Girls will be girls.
Boys will realise God,
The Highest Realisation.
Girls will manifest God,
The Absolute Perfection.

God feels sad

The doctor fails;
And God feels sad.
He feels sad
That He did not give the doctor
The life-saving medicine.

The patient dies;
And God feels sad.
He feels sad
That He did not give the patient
The message of immortal life.

The relatives weep;
And God feels sad.
He feels sad
That He did not tell them
That Heaven is the second floor
And earth is the first floor
Of the same building.
God feels sad
That He forgot to tell them
Even the name of the building.
Love is its name.

Carriers

Doubt, don't come to me!
If you come
I shall carry you to Faith.
Faith and I shall kill you.

Fear, don't come to me!
If you come
I shall carry you to Will.
Will and I shall kill you.

Faith, do come to me!
Carry me to the real starting point.

Will, do come to me!
Carry me to the ultimate Goal.

Tomorrow does not come

Tomorrow does not come.
Why?
Because
Yesterday was enough
And
Today is more than enough.

Tomorrow will never come.
Why?
Because
God has not given birth
To tomorrow
And
He does not want
To change His Plan.

No news

No news is sad news
When I expect
My God-realisation news
From God,
My negligent correspondent.

No news is good news
When I expect
My endless bondage news
From ignorance,
My forgetful correspondent.

Passports

Money is the superlative passport
In the country of
Deception and corruption.

Conscience is the most effective passport
In the country of
Truth and justice.

Surrender divine is the only passport
In the country of
Realisation and Perfection.

Practice makes perfect

Practice makes perfect.
God believes in this theory;
Therefore
He practised Compassion.
Lo, He has become Compassion,
Unconditional Compassion.

Practice makes perfect.
God believes in this theory;
Therefore
He practised surrender.
Lo, He has become perfect Surrender,
Surrender to man's countless desires.

Ask me any question

O man,
Ask me any question.
I shall answer
According to your sense of perfection.

O earth,
Ask me any question.
I shall answer
According to your sublime satisfaction.

O God,
Ask me any question.
I shall answer
According to my insignificant realisation.

He told me

He told me
The forgotten truth:
I pray to God.

He told me
The undiscovered truth:
God needs me.

He told me
The impossible secret:
God fasts in the morning
Because I cannot afford
To eat Light in the morning.

He told me
The open secret:
God starves in the evening
Because I have consumed
All His patience-food.

Is it true?

“A great talker
Is a great liar.”
I asked God
If this statement is true.
God said, “No!
Son, every second I speak
To My countless children,
And I never tell a lie.”

“A great saint
Can never be a liar.”
I asked God
If this statement is true.
God said, “No!
Son, your great saint
Has convinced his mind
That he has surpassed
My creation, which is nothing
Other than Myself, in purity.
Can anybody surpass Me in purity?
Son, what else is he
If not a liar?”

For God no return

Doubt came to him on horseback
And went away on foot.

Faith came to him on foot
And went away on horseback.

Hate came to him on foot
And went away on foot.

Love came to him on horseback
And went away on horseback.

Truth came to him dancing
And went away limping.

God came to him running
And exhausted all His Energy.
God is dead tired;
He needs a long rest.
Therefore
For God, no return.

Victory is Meant for Those who Can Tolerate

by Sri Chinmoy
speaking at his home in Jamaica, New York

You have written to me about the difficulties you are having with your boss. You have to tolerate, tolerate, tolerate this boss. In a few months the boss will retire and disappear, so you do not have to worry.

Each time the boss treats you unjustly, just think of my affection, love, gratitude and pride. Immediately imagine me. Others also have gone through this experience. They survived, and you also can survive. You will survive. Survive, survive, survive!

Victory is meant for those who can tolerate. In my life, have I not been the example? Those who stand against spirituality may be impossible human beings, but there is a law of karma. Right now we may not see their karma, but from Heaven we are bound to see that they will reap the results of their actions, either in this incarnation or in their future incarnations. If we surrender to God’s Will, then God will definitely give us the capacity to see the experiences that God is going to give them.

Time is a great factor — time, time. Unfortunately, we have chosen time in our own way. Again, God has chosen time in His own Way. When it is a matter of our human time, everybody can escape. But when God’s Hour strikes, nobody can escape, nobody can escape.

Tolerance, tolerance, tolerance!
