Flag Flies over U.S. Capitol in Honour of Sri Chinmoy
In honour of Sri Chinmoy’s 11th year in the West, a brand new flag of the United States of America is flown over the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. This was done through the co-operation of Senator Lowell Weicker, Jr. of Connecticut, upon request of Mrs. Tebi Finnerty.
At the end of the day, the head architect of the Capitol Building takes the flag down and sends it with a letter of confirmation that the flag had indeed been flown in honour of Sri Chinmoy, to Senator Weicker. The flag of honour is now in the possession of the Sri Chinmoy Centre where it will be flown from atop its headquarters in Jamaica, L.I.

Airport Encounters

At the Calcutta airport, quite unexpectedly Mother Teresa and I met face to face. For me to recognise her was a very easy task. But she didn’t give any sign of recognising me. For a fleeting second she looked at me and I looked at her. We were only three metres from each other. She was travelling with only three attendants, and they were all wearing saris. Usually I have quite a few attendants around me, although this time I had nobody.
Then again at the Delhi airport we passed by each other. But it happened so quickly that I barely noticed her. Then I saw three or four people come up to her for her autograph.

INDIAN GOVERNMENT GREETS CHILDREN OF THE WORLD
UNITED NATIONS — The Indian Government soulfully greeted the children of the world March 27 when its U.N. Ambassador presented a painting by the renowned Indian spiritual Master and artist Sri Chinmoy to the head of UNICEF’s “International Year of the Child” (IYC).
Ambassador Rikhi Jaipal presented the painting on behalf of the Indian Government to Assistant U.N. Secretary-General Dr. Estefania Aldaba-Lim, Special Representative for IYC, at a luncheon at the U.N. Church Centre.
“I consider it a great honour to be asked to present this beautiful painting, which seems to have a childlike quality about it and therefore seems a most appropriate gift,” Ambassador Jaipal told some 200 dignitaries as he handed over the work of art.
“There can be no higher religion than our common allegiance to humanity, which is inherent in the Charter of the United Nations and which is indeed the message implicit in the teachings of Sri Chinmoy,” Ambassador Jaipal declared.
Dr. Lim replied: “As this painting travels around inspiring people to the beauty and joy of childhood, it will bring about the greater consciousness that we in the Secretariat are completely committed to.”
The U.N. Meditation Group Choir then sang a song which Sri Chinmoy had composed for the IYC entitled, “This is my year.”
The painting, which depicts the artist’s vision of the world-child, was an expression of the Government of India’s oneness with the cause of the International Year of the Child.
The painting will be displayed around the world as part of UNICEF’s untiring efforts to promote the cause of IYC. The first exhibition, sponsored by the European-American Bank, will take place in New York.

For Sri Chinmoy, 360 books, 130,000 paintings and 3,000 songs aren’t enough. Now the Indian spiritual master, who teaches most of his meditation at the United Nations, has been bitten by the running bug. Chinmoy wrapped up his second official 26-mile marathon of the year Sunday — the “Heartwatchers” run in Toledo, Ohio — crossing the finish line in 3 hours and 55 minutes. That shaves 35 minutes off the· 4 hours and 30 minutes he posted March 3 in Chico, Calif. Says the 47-year-old guru, “Running is an aid to spiritual life since it offers individuals an opportunity to go beyond their own physical limits.” Ommmmmmm!

The Beginning of Something Unique
A talk by Sri Chinmoy

An unprecedented thing took place in Cologne on the 27th. It is the very beginning of something unique. “Peace: God’s Beauty in His Oneness-Home” has started radiating its divinity and immortality all over the world.
The Germans have spent thousands and thousands of dollars. But I tell you it is not their money-power that achieved this tremendous success. It is their heart-power, oneness-power and cooperation-power that has succeeded. Heart-power, oneness-power, money-power: all the powers should go together.
Over eight thousand people came. Needless to say, they did not come to see the musician in me. They came to me to see a God-lover and peace-distributor. The inner peace that I have and that I am is what they felt long before they even came to the concert. So peace-lovers are the ones who have come to our peace concert.
God’s fondest child is peace. Whoever needs peace in life, in his entire being, is bound to be the most perfect instrument of God.
