On 18 October 1994, a celebration of the life of New York City Marathon founder Fred Lebow, a dear friend of Sri Chinmoy and the Marathon Team, was held at the United Nations. It was co-sponsored by The Peace Meditation at the United Nations and the United Nations Staff Recreation Council Athletics Club.
