Sri Chinmoy offers his first Peace Concert in East Germany and lifted 13 German residents at Opernhaus Leipzig, in Leipzig, East Germany.

Sri Chinmoy receives four awards from the International Association of Educators for World Peace — two Diplomas of Honour, an Award proclaiming him Dharma Raja (King of Dharma) and the ‘Fountain of Universal Peace Award’ — at the United Nations in New York.

Sri Chinmoy lifts nine mature elephants, all weighing more than 4,000 lbs., including the heaviest elephant he ever lifted – an 8,046 lb. female carrying a mahout and the apparatus for a total of 8,622 lbs. – using a calf-raise machine with a ground platform at the Mae Taeng Elephant Park, in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. Also lifted is a baby elephant.
