came to the West. He arrived, on a flight from Madras, India, at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York at 3:30 p.m., where he was met by two of his American sponsors Sam Spanier and Eric Hughes.

As director of the ‘United Nations Meditation Group’, which later became known as ‘Sri Chinmoy: The Peace Meditation at the United Nations’, Sri Chinmoy served the spiritual aspirations of the United Nations for over 37 years.
