A Moment’s Peace At The London 2012 Olympics


As part of the Art of the Olympians programme, ‘A Moment’s Peace’ was held in the forecourt of the University College London on July 28, 2012, and featured the unveiling of a statue of peace-advocate and spiritual luminary Sri Chinmoy, by British sculptor Kaivalya Torpy.

Guests and speakers included: Vice Provost of University College London Professor Michael Worton, Chairman of Art of the Olympians Cathy Oerter (wife of Al Oerter), CEO of Art of the Olympians Bob Beamon (legendary Olympian), Nripal Eric Petersen, Sudhahota Carl Lewis (legendary Olympian), Baroness Shreela Flather, Reverend Mpho Tutu (daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu), Dr Bernice King (daughter of Dr Martin Luther King), Marlene Owens (daughter of Jesse Owens), CEO of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund Sibongile Mkhabela, Khaliah Ali (daughter of Muhammad Ali), and President of the General Conference of UNESCO Davidson Hepburn.

Southfields Academy perform ‘Let There Be Peace On Earth’, Purushottama Boris Grebenshikov performs with choirs a specially composed song for this event.
